1. Daily Cleaning of the Portafilter and Group Head

Every time you use your espresso machine to make your favorite brew, coffee oils and
grounds get trapped in the portafilter and group head. Once you are done with the machine
after the end of the day (or after every use if you are

e a heavy coffee drinker), take off the
portafilter and cleanse it thoroughly with warm water. You need to scrub away any stubborn
residues and make sure the basket holes do not have any built-up.
You can also backflush the group head with clean water or a curated espresso machine
cleaner. This helps in thoroughly removing residual oils that could result in bitter flavors or
clogging the system.

2. Clean the Steam Wand After Every Use
If you often employ a steam wand to froth milk in your espresso machine, make sure to
purge it effectively after use. It is best to clean the area down with a damp cloth and run a
burst of steam to get rid of milk residue inside the wand. If you do not follow this routing, it
will pave the way toward hard-to-remove buildup and potential blockages.
For thorough cleaning, soak the tip of the steam wand in hot water and sprinkle a few drops
of mild detergent or an efficient cleaner for the best results.

3. Descale Regularly
The hard water contains traces of limescale, and it can build up inside your espresso
machines boiler and pipes, bringing down the machines efficiency and possibly rendering

the internal components inefficient. Depending on the quality of your water, maintenance
should be tended to every 1 to 3 months.
Use a descaling solution uniquely curated for an espresso machine. Adhere to your
machines instructions for making the solution and using it in the system. Make sure to flush
thoroughly with clean water once done to get rid of any residual chemicals.
